Getting Ready for Convention

With Convention less than a week away, many of us are turning our attention toward Montréal. In preparation for this experience, the Commission for Social Justice Educators has a few reminders:

ACPA has put together a bunch of resources discussing everything from accessibility and gender inclusivity to resources on the culture and language of Montréal and Aboriginal and Indigenous peoples of Canada. We know that there are specific challenges associated with holding a conference outside of the United States, and we ask that our membership reflect on these challenges as well.

There are a couple of additional resources to make Convention a bit easier to navigate. For example, check out CrowdCompass online or download the app to search for and save programs and workshops for later. You can even create your own schedule to keep track of your plans. If you’re job searching, be sure to check out everything there is to know about ACPA Career Central–a career development hub at Convention.

Convention also marks the transition of Directorate Body members. The Directorate sets direction for and coordinates the various activities of the Commission, and these individuals serve as leaders within the Commission in a variety of functional areas. This year, we’re excited to welcome five new CSJE Directorate members:

Lee Xiong from Michigan State University, Web Coordinator
Stephanie Tchang from Mississippi State University, Outreach Coordinator
Matt Banks from New York University, Institute Coordinator
Michael Vidal from Bryant University, Social Media Coordinator
Bie Aweh from University of California–Berkeley, Blog Coordinator

This is also our opportunity to say “see you soon” to the Directorate members who are transitioning out at the end of their term. We want to thank the following individuals for their constant effort to make our space more thoughtful, inclusive, and accessible:

Stephanie Bondi, Past-Chair
Christian Bello, Web Coordinator
Marc Lo, Convention Programming Coordinator
Cherjanet Lenzy, Vice Chair for Programming

Last, CSJE annually sponsors several programs at Convention, and this year we have a great lineup for you. Topics include accessibility, asexuality, white dominance, and job fit, among others. We also host an open meeting for all members and anyone interested in joining CSJE as well as a joint social/awards ceremony. As you plan out your schedule for Convention, check out the list of CSJE-sponsored programs and events and join us when you can!
